About Dr. Sriram Vishwanath

Sriram Vishwanath

Dr. Sriram Vishwanath received his B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, M.S. from CalTech and his Ph.D. from Stanford University, all in electrical engineering. His research interests include information theory, wireless communications and coding theory. His industry experience includes work at the National Semiconductor Corporation, CA and at the Lucent Bell labs, NJ. He has won a NSF CAREER Award and the 2005 IEEE Joint IT/Comsoc Best Paper Award.


Dr. Vishwanath's Research Group

Dr. Vishwanath's group works on building a comprehensive framework for developingalgorithms that enable efficient communication over networks. The systems studied include centralized and ad hoc networks with a focus on MIMO & OFDM systems, distributed low complexity coding & compression and relay-based cooperation schemes that achieve desired performance goals. Some techniques currently under investigation include source and channel coding, MIMO-OFDM systems, pre-coding and smart-relaying.

The group's research goal is to use sophisticated techniques to solve real world problems. The group actively collaborates with other research groups working on cross-layer research issues to address challenges in wireless communication systems.
